Blue Chaste Tree (vitex agnus-castus)- Also called Chasteberry or Vitex. Woody ornamental shrub in the verbena family, features large panicles of blue flowers late Spring through Fall and is often used as a substitute for Lilac in the southern states. Can grow to be 10' - 15' tall. Soft blue blooms abound during the summer months and are popular for use as cut flowers and in dried crafts. Excellent bee plant as pollinators (especially bumblebees) love the Chaste flowers. Requires a sunny location for best results. Excellent carefree plant for tough climates and soil conditions. Drought and heat resistant. Some individuals can experience an allergic skin reaction when handling vitex, so caution is advised. Perennial zones 6-11. One live plant in 3 inch container.
